Under the influence of temperature changes, metals can expand or contract. This creates the possibility that pipes can deform due to large forces and pressure changes, causing damage to systems connected to them.
Mechanical vibrations caused by pumps, compressors, motors and other connected equipment can also seriously affect the condition of pipes. The same applies to medium vibrations caused by the pulsating nature of the medium.
The expansion of metal in one direction is called linear expansion. As a result, a steel pipe of, say, 50 meters expands as much as 60 mm at a temperature of 100°C!
When the pipe is fully clamped and anchored, the pipe will deform and the connected systems will be torn away from the pipe. Not only can the consequential damage to your system be enormous, but also the dangers to you, your employees, our environment and nearby residents!
You can prevent such consequences by deploying the right expansion joint. KLINGER supplies a wide range of high-quality expansion joints from renowned manufacturers. From our passion for technology and years of experience in various industrial application areas, we are happy to share our knowledge in the form of sound advice. Our experienced specialists have a great sense of responsibility and are aware that sustainability is an important criterion for the future and therefore prefer long-term solutions. All our expansion joints are delivered with various European certificates and attestations. If required, our specialists can measure the expansion joints and supervise the assembly for you.
"The reliability of our expansion joints is an important criterion for operational safety and the livable environment around our industry."
As an alternative to rubber expansion joints , PTFE expansion joints are frequently a solution.
The most common PTFE expansion joints have 2, 3 or 5 waves and feature swivel flanges with movement limiters. In our standard range, PTFE expansion joints comes with DIN or ANSI flanges.
With the standard PTFE expansion joints with 2, 3 or 5 waves, the pressure resistance decreases rapidly as the temperature rises. Our product specialists will be happy to advise you on this.
The metal expansion joints from KLINGER are designed, manufactured and tested according to the criteria of the Expansion Joint Manufacturers Associations, or EJMA standardization for short. They are used for absorbing thermal expansion, reducing vibration and for stress-free arrangements in piping systems in a wide variety of process technologies.

Simple single-ball element designs to accommodate axial, lateral and angular movements.
Equipped with two ball elements and suitable for accommodating large axial and lateral movements, at lower pressure classes.
Version with one or two ball elements and at least two tie rods. The number of tie rods depends, among other things, on diameter and pressure class. This expansion joint is suitable for small lateral and axial movements.
Equipped with one or two ball elements and multiple hinges and suitable for accommodating small angular movements in one plane. A combination of two or three expansion joints can accommodate large axial movements.
Expansion joints With one ball element and one cardan assembly. Suitable for accommodating small angular movements in any plane.
U- and band expansion joints are the most economical standard types for the most common applications in round and rectangular ducts
Especially for rectangular ducts, also for special corner design.
with intermediate flanges and tie rods Necessary for large, rectangular or round ducts, especially with large axial movements. The intermediate flanges can be equipped with tension bolts or special suspension.
For rectangular expansion joints , the corners should be rounded with the comb height of the corner profile. Fabric expansion joints are always designed and produced according to customer specifications.
