After more than a decade working at KLINGER The Netherlands, Mark looks back on his start at the company

"I started looking for a new challenge after being made redundant at my previous employer due to the economic crisis. After three months, I was contacted by a recruitment agency looking for a candidate for a position as a technical sales representative in the Appendages department at KLINGER. During my first interview it quickly became clear that my 12 years of experience as a product specialist made me a better match for another position at KLINGER: Product Specialist Seals. And so I started in this role on 1-12-2013!"

"If it is purely about the function Product Specialist Seals, I would describe it as a job in which you support customers and colleagues technically with advice and calculations in the field of Seals. However, my job does not stop there. Besides the technical support of customers and colleagues, I am also busy improving the technical knowledge level of my colleagues, but also of our customers. Under the motto "Sharing knowledge is power" I also organize training courses in the field of flange and gasket technology, assist customers on site to devise and apply technical solutions, am active as a flange inspector during Turn Arounds and teach gasket technology at our international KLINGER branches. In short, a very versatile job so..."

A typical workday of a product specialist

"No two days are the same as a Product Specialist, which is what makes this position so much fun! One day you are in a boiler suit tinkering at a customer's site or attending meetings about technical issues. Another day you are busy at KLINGER assisting customers and colleagues on a technical level. Finally, there are also days, for example, when you stand and teach all day."

"I would describe the work culture at KLINGER as pleasantly Rotterdam. Don't bullshit, but clean! Of course there is always time for relaxation and fun. Something for which there is always room at KLINGER (as long as the work gets done). I would describe the atmosphere between colleagues as familiar. At KLINGER you are definitely not a number. The colleagues are always there for each other."

"What is typical for me KLINGER is that we do not shout from the rooftops that we are good. We show this to our customers by simply solving problems. Being ready for the customer, when the customer needs us, 24/7. Our level of knowledge characterizes KLINGER The Netherlands, and we should be proud of that. Sometimes we can shout a little louder that we are good!"
