Often gaskets without a shank are used during blocking with metal sheaves. As a result, there is a danger that - after removing the thrust washer - the "temporary gasket" is left in place and it is RETURNED between the flanges. With all the dangers this entails!

During the removal of flanged discs, temporary gaskets can be inadvertently replaced with another type and thus "wrong" gasket. Installations are then no longer safe and leaks can occur.
