Seals for tank storage

We know the challenges in tank storage such as availability of storage capacity, time constraints, various media, fire and explosion hazards and large volumes of often hazardous materials. Avoiding any incident where humans and the environment may be at risk should be the highest priority. Managing the risks is a necessity and technical measures are available for this purpose. You can rely on the knowledge and products of KLINGER.
Manholes come in various sizes and designs on a tank and often consist of weak flange connections. Usually with thin flanges, few bolts and large/wide sealing surfaces. Seal rings also need to be multi-functional, as the media in tanks can vary (pH ranges from 0-14). And therein lies precisely the challenge for every tank storage park manager!

Standards
Tank storage is subject to legal requirements and standards to ensure safety. The SEVESO directive, for example, describes "the requirements for a high level of protection of installations for the storage and handling of flammable liquids". The SEVESO III regulations (Directive 2012/18/EU - July 4, 2012) link directly to guidelines for seals. Aspects such as FIRE-SAFE and leakage classes are directly linked to this directive.
In summary, the connections directly on the storage tank up to the pump should be FIRE-SAFE. For other connections in the piping system, it is a recommendation but not a requirement.
