For blocking off flange connections, so-called "stab pans / sheaves" are used. This is to ensure that the environment in which and the equipment to be worked on are not at risk. Depending on the work location, each company has its own specific procedures with corresponding regulations, permits, labels, way of reporting, etc.
KLINGER produces not only the usual flanges, but also according to customer specifications. If no specific thickness is prescribed, we supply thicknesses equal to the usual gasket thickness. By using special extra-strong materials, the thinnest possible flanges can be used, which is desirable in view of mounting between the flanges pulled apart and the weight.
The handle comes standard with coding consisting of make, nominal bore and pressure class and any color coding. The stem is provided with a suspension hole as standard. If required, a KLINGER SIL, KLINGER graphite or KLINGER TopChem material is adhered to the stem for optimum sealing. Insert discs and spectacle discs are supplied for all common flanges and in all common materials.
Often, gaskets without stems are used during the blocking process with metal shanks. As a result, there is a danger that - after removing the insert - the "temporary gasket" is left in place and it is RETURNED between the flanges. With all the dangers this entails!
Additional safety aspect by:
During the removal of plug screws, temporary gaskets may be inadvertently replaced with another type of and therefore "wrong" gasket. Installations are then no longer safe and leaks will quickly become visible. These mistakes are easily avoided by using our gaskets.
All types of KLINGER flange gaskets are also available in the form of stick gaskets including stem AND print. This allows you to see at a glance which type of gasket is placed between the flanges and makes replacing the temporary gasket with a final and "same type" gasket a lot easier.
ALWAYS use box gaskets! We often see and hear that metal flanges are installed without gaskets. The risk of the metal connecting disk damaging the flange surface is high. This only increases the occurrence of future unsafe situations. For optimal preservation of your flanges, KLINGER recommends that you always use metal gaskets in combination with gaskets. If the space between the flanges does not allow two gaskets and an additional thrust washer, our product specialists will be happy to suggest other possible solutions.
